Within its four days the Boskovice festival will offer numerous music as well as theatre and film treats, art exhibitions, literary readings and many other bonuses. During its twelve years´ history the festival has gained high reputation not only in the eyes of its faithful visitors but also professional journalists. This year the festival takes place between 15th and 18th July.

The Boskovice festival, as opposed to other events of this kind, takes place all over the town – in open-air cinema amphitheatre, synagogue, castle, town cinema, castle glasshouse, theatre marquee, behind town museum and many other venues – and visitors can therefore enjoy the advantage of free movement and decision about which event they wish to witness at the given moment.

This year´s programme again includes a wide range of dainties. The stage devoted to music – the open-air cinema amphitheatre equipped with the largest projection screen in the Czech Republic – will feature both well-established names as well as several promising newcomers, whom you will not be able to hear anywhere else. It is worth mentioning that it was exactly the Boskovice festival where some of the now widely popular bands debuted live.

Besides the already ‚traditional‘ performers like Psí vojáci, Vitkovo kvarteto, -123 minut or Nahoru po schodišti dolů band this stage will equally offer groups that will probably be a surprise (and may well become real big names in the near future), for example Kuličky štěstí (funky from Ostrava), Eggnoise (nominated for Czech Grammy awards), Nuselský umělecký orchestr (perhaps the festival´s main surprise), a little bit of reggae from Babalet, German ska-reggae band Yellow Cap or the very pleasing Slovak ensemble Dlhé diely.

The Za muzeem (behind the museum) stage will be coming into life every afternoon and will host bands like OTK (winners of the Anděl 2003 award), Ty Syčáci with Petr Váša, Posmrtné zkušenosti, Vladimír Václavek and guests, Nierika, Abigail, David Dragoun band + guest appearance by Roman Dragoun, Ememvoodoopöká, Já taky with Antonín Mareš and many more.

One of this year´s main surprises – the brand new jazz stage in Skleník (glasshouse) – promises some of the most extraordinary experiences and improvised jams. Among the numerous performers here you might find groups like Baseline, In2Funk, Vertigo, In the pocket or Nel´o´feel from Germany. There definitely is a lot to look forward to.

Theatre production will take over the castle in the afternoon time and move to the theatre marquee for the evenings. The participating companies include divadlo Continuo, Teatr Novogo Fronta, Bílé divadlo Ostrava, Ústaf Brno, just to name a few.

Film projections in the open-air cinema will be launched by the screening of the legendary movie Kouř and rounded off by Bergmann’s classic Fanny and Alexander. We are about to bring you various documentaries and videoclips, for instance Vzpomínka na Františka Vláčila, Ozvěny festivalu Jeden Svět, Filmové školy uvádějí I.-III., Deváté putování pohádkovým světem, Z archivu Originálního videojournalu, Zločiny komunismu, Petr Slabý uvádí, Občan Karel Kryl… Other films featured include 66 sezón, Otesánek, Ničeho nelituji, Sbohem  slunce, Sentiment, Hledání and as a very special treat we have prepared a non-stop screening of the cult series Red Dwarf.

The synagogue will host a few concerts with a little more intimate atmosphere: among those performing here are V. a I. Havlovi, Mandolínové kvarteto and Marion featuring the wonderful singer Monika Žáková. You will equally have the chance to see and hear the energy-fuelled recitation of selected German poetry pieces delivered by J. Rudiš, A. Švamberk and P. Medunová and also witness the show of Sinebag – the solo project of Leipzig´s multi-instrumentalist Alexander Schubert combining acoustic instruments (guitar, piano) and electronics (real life sound samples modified by computer software etc.).

A tent located on the lawn in front of the castle will arch over the reggae stage offering performances by djs Babylonrocker, Suppafly, Mighty Lemon, One Heart Man, Scareface and Papapot – definitely an agreeable spot to chill out or take another breath. There is going to be a lot of space and all the necessary equipment for jugglery…

There will be literary readings, poetry soirees and exhibitions in various other places all around the town, so it is possible to say that no matter where you go, there will surely be something happening there.

Not witnessing the Boskovice festival equals to not existing at all!
